STROMBOLI ISLAND

An unforgettable show
offered by the nature of Stromboli

In Stromboli, you will find yourself face to face with one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Walking through the streets of Stromboli, while listening to the noises and mutterings of the volcano, it is an almost surreal experience that remains etched in the memory.
The island is a rock of just 12 square kilometres of surface that rises in the northernmost position among the islands of the Aeolian archipelago. The inhabitants of Stromboli called "Iddu" (him) the volcano, which periodically performs with eruptions and lapilli. Stromboli, like Alicudi and Filicudi, is the kingdom of uncontaminated nature. On the island, you will find a few paved roads and a few houses, in fact, there are about 400 residents. Just two villages, San Vincenzo and San Bartolo, form the town of Stromboli; while on the southern coast, reachable only by sea, you can find the small village of Ginostra. Suggestive it is the small islet of volcanic origin that rises a short distance from the east coast, called Strombolicchio.

The sciara del fuoco

In Stromboli, you will have the opportunity to visit one of the most active volcanoes in the world, an unparalleled experience that can be experienced in a few other places on earth. Once in the village of San Vincenzo, take the path that leads to the top of "Iddu", arriving at the destination you will admire an almost surreal scenery of the summit craters overlooking Ginostra.

Continuing the journey, you will reach the Observatory, a pitch just a hundred meters from the crater. An enchanting place to stop and at the same time admire the extraordinary vitality of the volcano, including riots and lapilli. A show that becomes even more memorable if observed at sunset, perhaps from the sea aboard a boat. In the meanwhile "Iddu" (the volcano) still offers pyrotechnic explosions and lava flows, which descend from the steep slope forming the picturesque and exciting "Sciara del Fuoco".

La Sciara del Fuoco is a rocky wall smoothed by lava, which represents Stromboli's most engaging
and exciting natural attraction. The river of lava that slides slowly from the back of the volcano to the sea, colouring the darkness of the night, it is a spectacle of nature capable of evoking unique sensations. Memories that will be kept forever among those of an exclusive holiday in the Aeolian Islands.

The sea and the Strombolicchio

In a magical place where time is punctuated by the breaths and rhythms of the Volcano, there are plenty of beaches and enchanting views to take a dip in the blue. The sea of Stromboli bathes a wild and dark coast, full of secret bays, to be discovered one after the other during a boat ride.
We suggest you visit the Forgia Vecchia Beach and the Scari Beach, which offers a privileged view of the volcano and Strombolicchio.

The Strombolicchio is a volcanic islet, of about 50 meters, which rises from the sea about 1.6 kilometres from the east coast of the island. The lighthouse that dominates the top of the cliff is splendid. A fantastic place to visit aboard the typical boats of the island, perhaps at sunset, when the sky is tinged with warm colours and diving into the blue waters will be an unparalleled experience.
