ISLAND OF FILICUDI
Eros Hotel
the ideal starting point to discover Filicudi
Not far from Alicudi stands Filicudi, in all its beauty.
Filicudi is the most geologically ancient island of the Aeolian Islands. It is perfect if you are looking for contact with nature and you love walking along the dirt paths to hear both the silences and the sounds of the island.
Its inhabitants, about 200 souls, live among the hamlets of Filicudi Porto, Valdichiesa, Pecorini, Pecorini a mare, Canale and Rocca di Ciavoli, all nicely connected by small streets. When the sun sets and the paths of Filicudi become dark, the star-covered sky will be the main source of light to illuminate the magical evenings on this island.
The prehistoric village and Capo Graziano
Filicudi is a predominantly mountainous island. All the paths lead to peaks up to seven hundred meters high, where the more adventurous tourists can spend the night in a sleeping bag under a magical starry sky. Filicudi is also a place to deal with history and prehistory. The island is rich in archaeological finds above and below the sea.
Capo Graziano is the first stage that testifies to the ancient history of the Aeolian Islands, inhabited as early as 3000 BC. On this promontory are the remains of a prehistoric village, the scene of numerous finds, an open-air museum embellished by a breathtaking panorama.
But the surprises on this island never end. In Filicudi you will find another museum, less accessible but very suggestive, reachable by diving enthusiasts, on the seabed of Capo Graziano. It hosts wrecks, amphorae and artefacts from an era far removed from us.
The sea and the caves
The sea and the coasts of Filicudi offer glimpses of incredible beauty. Like the rock called La Canna, with its characteristic tapered shape, and the Grotta del Bue Marino, to be admired during a boat tour, under the command of an island sea dog.
The Grotta del Bue Marino is the largest cave on the Aeolian Islands. The entrance is carved on a clear rocky wall overlooking the sea, while the interior is a succession of arches, stalactites and stalagmites with magical greenish reflections, until reaching a small pebble beach. Imagine finding yourself with your better half inside the cave, wrapped in a surreal and romantic atmosphere restored by the alternation of light reflections and colours. Take the opportunity to hear the legend behind the name of the cave.
Also fascinating are the views that Filicudi offers along the stretch of coast called the Filo di Lorani, as well as the Sciarato coast, the Perciato arch, the Giafante rock, the Montenassari islet, Le Punte beach. Filicudi is a treasure chest of natural wonders to be discovered.
