ISLAND OF SALINA

The island of Massimo Troisi
Salina tour with the Eros Hotel

Nature and cinema are the seductions of Salina, chosen by the genius of Massimo Troisi for his latest performance in the film "Il Postino". Retracing those places, now iconic in the history of Italian cinema, means feeling closer, even if only for a moment, to the myth of Troisi. Like the famous Red House, the house where Troisi and Pablo Neruda (Philippe Noiret) used to chat, admiring in the distance the solemn beauty of the Aeolian archipelago. Salina is the ideal island also for trekking lovers who can try their skills at climbing Monte Fossa delle Felci: an extinct volcano that has been the highest mountain in the Aeolian Islands for centuries. From the top of Monte Fossa delle Felci you can admire a wide glimpse of the island and enjoy an exciting sunset, immersed in the scents of the sea breeze and lush vegetation typical of the Mediterranean scrub. It will be like stopping time: 962 meters above sea level to enjoy every reflection of an archipelago full of incomparable emotions and experiences.

The Pollara beach

Unique in its nature, the Pollara beach has a view similar to an amphitheatre carved into the gravel cliff. A magical place, reachable through a small and steep path that increases the sense of discovery, a sensation that accompanies the whole trip to Salina.

A few steps from the beach of Pollara, along a stairway between the rocks, there is a cove known as Le Balate: a show with a historical flavour that shows ancient shelters set in the rock, used in the past by fishermen to shelter their precious boats.

The coasts of the island of Salina offer a wonderful alternation of colours between one beach and another; volcanic rocks rich in vegetation and headlands, where you can admire the ancient fishermen's warehouses carved into the tuff.

Malvasia
and the Salina caper

Salina loves to delight tourists and travellers with native productions, expression of a way of living and of a generous land.

Thanks to its extensive fields of vineyards, the island of Salina is considered the area of greatest production of Malvasia DOC: a sweet wine with a sweet taste and a golden yellow or amber colour, one of the oldest in Sicily, identified as the main product of Aeolian agriculture.

In a typical Aeolian aperitif, you cannot miss the Salina capers, a slow food garrison. Flavours, perfumes and culture are the qualities that you will discover while sailing for Salina.

The museum

The most visited cultural institution on the island of Salina is the Ethno-anthropological Museum which houses a large collection of exhibits dedicated to the traditions of the indigenous population.

The island of Salina is a real discovery for travellers who cannot imagine a holiday without a cultural and folkloristic connotation.
In Salina, you can choose from a large number of exciting hiking trails, visit enchanting vineyards and caper plantations, as well as visit the ancient farms and cellars. Each village boasts craft shops, colourful markets and priceless historical symbols.
