The island of Lipari is the right compromise from your vacation if you are expecting moments of relaxation to alternate with fun and the beauties of nature.
At the arrival at the port of the island, you will notice the vitality of the town. Everywhere is full of boutiques, shops and bars where tourists love to stop ordering an excellent granita accompanied by a soft brioche. Lipari offers spaces for every need, so it is the ideal choice for both families and young people, to linger in long swims and dive into a cobalt blue sea.
Lipari, beaches and sea
Lipari offers a perfect balance between equipped beaches and uncontaminated coves, ideal for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts.
Among the most suggestive beaches of the entire Aeolian archipelago is Praia da Vinci Beach, a natural wonder set in a rocky promontory with a reddish colour. A small corner of predominantly sandy paradise, reachable only by boat through a boat ride.
Valle Muria beach is one of the most fascinating and loved by tourists. It is a delightful inlet painted between two rocky headlands, to be discovered through a footpath or by sea, it is characterized by a dark and narrow beach but embellished by small caves carved into the tuff rock. Unique of its kind is the Acquacalda Beach, in the northern part of the island, which extends along a long and narrow coastline, yet protected by a white mountain of pumice behind it.
La Spiaggia del Canneto is your destination if you want complete relaxation and all comforts; the suggestion to better appreciate the sea of the island of Lipari is to sit on the sun loungers of the bay, under the umbrella, and enjoy a crystal-clear sea just a few steps from the town. Lipari is also known for pumice and obsidian. The spectacular presence of pumice stone among the rocks of the seabed gives a further charm to the most famous beaches of Lipari.
What to see in Lipari
Noteworthy is the Castle of Lipari, built in 500 by Charles V to protect the city. Today it houses an archaeological museum of great historical and cultural value. As well as the Bagni of San Calogero and Piazza Marina Corta, the heart of the island's nightlife, full of cafes, restaurants and bars.
The main religious monument of Lipari is the Cathedral of San Bartolomeo which houses a silver statue of the Saint dating back to 1728. It is a common belief that the first religious object on the area where the cathedral stands today appeared in prehistoric times.
Not far from the town is the wonderful Belvedere "Quattrocchi": the name sounds a bit of veiled advice, to share with your partner one of the most fascinating panoramic views of the Aeolian Islands.
